Neosonik has been working to solve the problem of synchronous Audio/Video streaming longer than any company in the industry. Our solution, called Airpower A\V, is the only system in the world capable of eliminating all connecting wires in a Home Theater - up to 7.2 Surround Sound and High-Definition Video. It operates in the same 5Ghz license-free spectrum as 802.11a. However, unlike Wi-Fi, which was never designed to handle Audio and Video data and is only capable of very coarse timing, the Airpower A\V wireless chipset and software system adds a myriad of proprietary improvements that enable synchronous timing superior to a wired connection. Because we have spent more time developing and testing this technology in a wide variety of consumer and retail environments, we have developed the technical criteria required for wireless A/V systems to meet, or exceed, conventional wired performance. Throughput The Airpower A\V system is capable of streaming up to 60Mbps of synchronous data – more than enough to handle all of the latest HD-Video and Surround Sound formats. All audio channels are transmitted in their original, uncompressed PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) format. We start with CD-quality performance at the Controller and deliver CD-quality to the loudspeaker, not compressed MP3-quality. This is a fundamental advantage since we are not sacrificing any sound quality. In fact, we are improving sound quality by eliminating all signal-degrading analog components found in conventional systems: i.e. speaker wires, capacitors, coils and resistors. It is also enough data to simultaneously transmit High-Definition Video to a TV set or Projector using H.264, the most advanced video transport format available today. Distance What is the point of having a wireless A/V system if you have severe limitations on how far it can broadcast reliably? Only Neosonik can transmit over 200 feet through multiple walls without interference from other wireless devices. This enables multi-zone, whole-house coverage without excuses. We have learned from retailers that if they have to ask their customer how big their living room is because there may be limits to how far they can spread the speakers, then there will be no sale at all. This is why wireless systems such as UWB (UltraWideBand) are not acceptable because they are supposedly capable of broadcasting 30 feet, although the best demonstration we have seen has managed only 12 feet. Can you live with that? We can’t. And A/V retailers can’t either. Robustness Just because a system works when you are the only person in the room doesn’t mean it is acceptable. What about that SuperBowl party you were thinking of having? No one can live with a system where the audio or video begins to dropout when more people enter the room. Moving bodies (such as people) or metal structures can obstruct the wireless signal and create a condition called Multipath, which causes the dreaded dropout, where the speakers or TV lose signal until the obstruction moves out of the way. Neosonik’s proprietary system was designed specifically to eliminate dropouts so you can enjoy your music or movies with rock-solid performance equivalent to a wired connection. Synchronization Of all the performance criteria, Synchronization may be the most important. All audio signals must arrive at each speaker within an extremely tight time window, or you will experience a phenomenon we call “drift.” This means that timing between loudspeaker pulses is constantly changing. What you hear is a very strange “venetian blind” effect, which means the Stereo or Surround image is distorted because the speakers are out of phase. In layman’s terms, imagine if you had a friend hold each loudspeaker in the system and then move it in and out by a foot or two as the music is playing. This would simulate the “drift” caused by poor synchronization. We have heard other systems claiming to be synchronized to within “one or two samples.” This is a computer term that translates to roughly 40 to 80 microseconds. Airpower A\V synchronizes to just 6 nanoseconds, meaning our system is as much as ten thousand times tighter! This is not insignificant since even a novice can hear the difference between a system that is similar to a wired connection and one that causes instruments and spatial cues in the music to constantly drift.
